Local farming practices in Mbeya include cultivation of crops along river banks, which lead to increased soil erosion and then flooding, which damages crops, homes, and roads.
This team decided to restore Mwatisi River’s riparian zone by planting bamboo and other species, as well as strategically positioning big logs and stones to reduce erosion. The team is also educating farmers about the effects of the local farming practices.
