Ways to Live Green
So, you don't think the little things can make a difference? Not true! Here's a list of just a few of the many, many things you can do to help the environment. They'll have a real impact.
Start with one. When that becomes second nature, pick another one. It's that simple to live green!
Waste Not, Want Not

Take a five minute shower.

Reduce unnecessary packaging. Reuse materials whenever possible. Recycle everything you can.

Buy a reusable water bottle.

Use washable food containers instead of disposable plastic wrap and bags.

Use cloth napkins and towels instead of paper.

Take reusable bags with you whenever you go shopping.

Buy recycled paper, use both sides, and think twice before you print.
Save Your Energy

Walk, bike, or use public transportation instead of driving.

Shut off lights, computers, and other electronic equipment when you're not using them.

Use compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs).

Put on a sweater instead of turning up the heat.

Use a fan instead of air conditioning.
For Health's Sake

Buy locally grown and/or organic produce.

Reduce the amount of animal products you eat.

Start composting your kitchen and yard waste.

Grow only native plants and don't use pesticides, fertilizers, or chemicals.

Use natural soaps and cleaning products.
Speak Up
- Write a letter to an elected official (the president, senators, mayors, etc.) about an environmental issue.

Join an environmental club.

Support a local science institution, such as a zoo, aquarium, botanical garden, or nature center.
