Service-Learning Projects

Chances are you clicked on this link because you weren’t sure exactly what a service-learning project is.  Or, maybe you do and you want to get started.  Either way, you came to the right spot!

Simply put, a service-learning project is a fun and effective way to combine knowledge and action.  People carry out service-learning projects for many different reasons – to help the homeless, to stop school violence, or – you guessed it! – to save wildlife and wild lands.

You can do it!  And we can help.  Check out some of the teen projects that have already been done.  Yours could be next!

First you investigate something you’re interested in – like the woods behind your school, the birds flying through your city streets, or the attitudes of the people in your town.  Then you take what you’ve learned and use it to make your community and your environment a better place.

We’ve developed a unique guide to help you choose a project that fits your interests.  After you decide on a topic, you can put your creative energies to work by designing an action plan, an outline or description of your service-learning project that you use as a guide to carry out the project.

Now, you may be asking, why do this?  There are lots of reasons!  First of all, your carefully planned and executed service-learning project will have a direct and powerful effect on your local community, not to mention the effect it will have on you. You will feel great, gain valuable experience, and develop new skills. Besides that, your project may qualify for one of our Service Awards, count as community service credit in your high school, and it will look great on any college or job application.
