Team WILD (Wilderness is Life, Duh!) in rural North Dakota chose to focus their efforts on improving Wildwood Park, a natural area with nature trails, migratory birds, beavers, white tail deer, and more. The park also suffered a lot of devastation in a winter storm in October, 2005, and its tree population is threatened by a destructive insect, the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). This summer and fall, the three team members recruited 16 volunteers to assist in a cleanup. Next they plan to construct nesting boxes from some of the fallen wood they collected during their cleanups and plant various deciduous and coniferous trees to help diversify the tree canopy. |
